Kvetch-22

And speaking as we were downstairs of P.F. Sloan (author of "Secret Agent Man" and many other splendid 60s tunes) here's a 1990 clip of the man himself performing a fragment of his genuine folk-rock classic "Where Were You When I Needed You."

Back in the day, Bob Dylan was rumoured to find Sloan an even more amusingly egregious Dylan wannabe than Donovan, but I must say, that song is really good (The Bangles did a killer cover of it, if memory serves) and at least Sloan (to our knowledge) didn't go on to find Jesus.

Yes, indeedy. And there's some dispute over whether or not it's actually Sloan singing lead on their record....

I remember reading an article in Creem about Sloan way back when (maybe by Greg Shaw?) mentioning how "Eve" "crucified" him. Jimmy Webb, of course, did a great number about him on one of his albums.

And let's not forget, he was one of the Fantastic Baggys! (kid charlemagne, I believe, burned me a copy of their album - thanx again!)

There is a version by the Bangles, which is available on the Greatest Hits album. My guess is it's from the early days, because it has that wonderful Paisley Underground sound from the first LP. It is killer, in fact.
