Chip Damiani 1945 -- 2014

Oh hell -- I just learned that Damiani, the drummer of garage punk gods The Remains died unexpectedly last Sunday.

Here he is, kicking major ass in 1966, on my favorite track from the band's legendary live in the studio album.

And if you don't know who the Remains are, go watch this fabulous documentary about them. The title says it all: America's Lost Band.

Have I mentioned that this death shit is really starting to piss me off?

P.S.: I forgot to mention this -- possibly because it still sort of blows (heh) my mind -- but it is worth noting that Remains keyboardist Bill Briggs III (the band's preppy heartthrob) is the brother of legendary first generation porn star Marilyn Chambers.

Hey -- they don't call rock-and-roll the Devil's music for nothing.

Hadn't heard about Chip. Every summer I intend to head over to Lake Shawnee in Wharton to drop in on Vern Miller. This makes me think that I should make it happen.

I lived in Boston in the 90s and saw The Remains in what may have been their first (?) reunion gig (don't quote me on that.) It was around '98 or '99 if memory serves. Peter Wolf emceed the show and introduced the band. To this day one of the greatest live performances i've ever seen.
It's a drag to read that one of the members of one of the greatest rock bands of all time is gone.

Steve:
Your blog seemed to indicate that the documentary could be seen at that site. But what is there is just a review of the doc by someone whose name rhymes with Sleeve Nimels. Am I missing something?

I've tried, but I just can't get into The Remains. For me it's too much something and not enough something else. I do however, appreciate Barry's contribution to Gram Parson's "GP". Did they met during Gram's brief Harvard career(1965-6)?
