Your Thursday Moment of Words Fail Me

From 2014, please enjoy the remarkably monikered Kaki King and ETHEL ambling (I keed, I keed) through the most powerful instro piece I've heard in ages.

This absolutely blows me away. Seriously, it sounds like what might have happened if Bernard Herrmann had ever decided to rock out.

Not only is the music great but it is a heck of a good video.

Acoustic music is a wonderful thing.

thanks for the Kaki (given name was Katherine) love. it's hard to keep up with all of her projects. all of her albums have a different focus. I like the trio album (Junior) best - it has the most vocals and rocking out - but the Black Pear Tree EP with the Mountain Goats is also a favorite

That's great!

I saw Kaki King open for the Mountain Goats a while back, and she joined John Darnielle for some tunes.

I also saw Ethel open for the Joe Jackson/ Todd Rundgren double bill. Highlight was when they all came out on stage for the encore, playing "Black Maria" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"....

OT, and I wish I could find a good Youtube of the song, but on the latest Jon Langford album, Four Lost Souls - recorded in Muscle Shoals, no less- he's got a song, "Natchez Trace"....

While normally he is working the Americana-alt country-post punk vein, this song immediately stakes out power pop territory with the first chiming guitar notes. This video is good, but does not do the song justice (mostly because it is missing the vocals of Tawny Newsome and Bethany Thomas).
